Bio

Bassey Otu is a Nigerian politician and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is the current governor of Cross River State, having been elected in the 2023 gubernatorial election held on March 18, 2023. Born on August 25, 1969, in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State, Otu attended Mafa Primary School and Government Secondary School, Monguno for his primary and secondary education respectively. He later studied at the University of Calabar, where he obtained a degree in Political Science. He also holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Lagos. Otu began his political career in 1999 when he was appointed as a Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Political Affairs. He later served as Commissioner for Information and Orientation from 2003 to 2007 under Governor Donald Duke’s administration1. In 2015, he contested for the position of Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District under the platform of the APC but lost to John Owan-Enoh of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). In 2023, Otu contested for the position of governor of Cross River State under the platform of the APC and emerged victorious with over one million votes1. Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Otu has been focused on addressing various challenges facing Cross River State. As governor, Otu has prioritized infrastructure development, education reform, healthcare improvement, agriculture promotion, and job creation. His policies aim to create an enabling environment for economic growth and improve the standard of living for the people of Cross River State. Governor Bassey Otu’s tenure as governor continues to be marked by his unwavering commitment to serving the people of Cross River State. His leadership under the All Progressives Congress (APC) has brought renewed hope and optimism for a brighter future for Cross River State.
